J Michael's Story
Life
There are some people in life who just can't seem to cross the street except by way of Nova Scotia. I think I'm one of them. I chose a career path early on. While I never veered from it, it had a lot twists and turns along the way.
I think I was always interested in building things. After HS I pursued a degree in Architecture, first an Associates from OCC, then moved to Los Angeles in 1979 to complete my Bachelors at The University of Southern California.
In 1989, life threw a curve ball. I was hit by a car (as a pedestrian) and spent 2.5 years recovering from the injuries and the next 7 years re-building my life. I hit my stride in 1994 after moving from Los Angeles to Seattle and re-gained a lot of ground fairly quickly. Everything seemed to grow and expand from there. I lived in Dallas from 1999 to 2012 working for a large international architectural firm in their Sports ...Expand for more
and Entertainment Group. In 2012, I returned to Southern California to be closer to my Dad and have continued to work in Sports Architecture since that time.
So... it's been an interesting ride thus far, but I can honestly say that life is good, and every step has been a positive one (however, I don't recommend physical trauma as a means of gaining life awareness... there are better (and less painful) ways...!
If you're ever in the San Diego area,, drop me a line... always fun to catch up with old friends!
School
I think I was most influenced by Jim Deorio. He taught Industrial Arts (among other things), and is responsible for my first exposure to architectural drawing. He really encouraged me to push the envelope and expand my skills in this area and it's paid off. It set the tone for my educational goals, and is now how I make my living. So Mr. D if you're out there... Thanks!
